Snapshot of Trump's Last Four Years

Immigration: Trump's travel ban denied (1) visas to citizens of seven countries with majority-Muslim populations; he attempted to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA), which protects nearly 700,000 (2) young adults who were brought to the U.S. at the avg. age (3) of 7. His “zero-tolerance” immigration policy led to the separation of more than 2,800 (4) migrant families --separations that have continued (5) two years after he claims they ended. Moreover, his "remain in Mexico" (6). policy (MPP) has forced more than 60,000 (7) Central American migrants requesting asylum to return to Mexico for indefinite amounts of time, violating (8) U.S. and international law, and exacerbating a "humanitarian and national security border crisis" (9).

Climate, Energy, & Environment: Trump is reversing more than one hundred (10) major climate & environmental policies, such as the landmark Clean Power Plan (11). He withdrew (12) the U.S. from the international Paris Agreement (13) on climate change, rather than honoring our pact to reduce emissions. Trump has been the only (14) president in U.S. history to strip protections from more acres of land than he’s protected; he has scrapped (15) many policies protecting U.S. Oceans & the Great Lakes, and has allowed (16) offshore oil and gas drilling in nearly all federally-owned lands. The Trump administration weakened (17) the enforcement of many basic environmental protections in "the single biggest giveaway to polluters in the past 40 years"(18).

Taxes, Jobs, & Economy: By April 2020, the U.S. unemployment rate had jumped by 10.3% (19); the IMF predicts U.S. economic output to drop 5.9% (20) by the end of 2020. National debt has risen by $4 trillion (21) from January 2017 to April 2020, and Trump's trademark Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (22) is projected (23) to cost the federal government an additional $1.5 trillion (24) between 2023 and 2030, while selectively (25) benefiting corporations, banks, & Americans earning more than 95% of the population. The economic confrontation between the U.S. & China since mid-2018 has led to several (26) rounds of retaliatory tariffs & trade restrictions which are linked (27) to U.S. employment reductions, reduced economic growth, lower wages, and are projected (28) to result in a $80 billion tax increase.

Health: Currently, the national uninsured rate is rising (29), and healthcare costs are increasing (30). Trump promised (31) to repeal the ACA (32), yet he hasn't come up with a replacement idea that wouldn't increase (33) premiums and reduce (34) coverage options. The White House has had a consistently unorganized response (35) to the Covid-19 pandemic; Trump ignored warnings (36) from of his own administration, and promoted (37) lethal cures like drinking bleach. During the pandemic, his administration slashed (38) CDC funding (24), withdrew (39) from the World Health Organization, and stopped (40) funding 13 federally-run testing sites just as new Covid-19 cases were peaking.

Gender: Trump revoked (41) the 2014 Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Act (42), which mandated (43) wage transparency & the reporting of sexual-harassment cases from large companies. He has dismantled (44) reproductive health services, enacted major spending cuts, (45) and hurt (46) other programs & organizations designed to support women. The Trump Administration has systematically reinstated discrimination against transgender Americans reversing (47) the Justice Department’s ruling on protection for transgender people under the Civil Rights Act (48). This allows (49) employers to legally discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender-identity, and has threatened (50) access to healthcare and social services such as homeless shelters for transgender Americans.

Race: Trump revoked (51) a series of rules enacted by the Obama administration to help reform police departments accused of rampant abuses and civil rights violations, and abandoned (52) the Smart on Crime Initiative (53), which worked to reduce jail time for non-violent and low-level drug offenses and helped reduce the U.S. incarceration rate by 8.4% (54) and reduce the crime rate by 14.6% (55). Meanwhile, the Trump Administration has gutted (56) protections on our nation's drinking water sources, and eased regulations on coal ash and mercury pollution, among countless (57) other moves disproportionately (58) harming communities of color. The Trump also proposed eliminating (59) the EPA's Environmental Justice office, which works to protect vulnerable populations from environmental harm.
